Tulsi vivah holds very significance in Hindu culture, it indicates unity, purity,  devotion, and prosperity. Tulsi is a sacred plant with lots of medical, and spiritual properties, representing the divine feminine energy. Lord Vishnu, the preserver of the universe symbolizes the divine masculine principle. It represents their bond, a harmonious balance between these two energies(masculine and feminine energy). Let’s dive into the details of Tulsi Vivah’s significance, muhurat,  backstory, and many more.

Story of Tusli Vivah:

The legendary story behind the Tulsi Vivah tradition is interesting.

It is said that Jalandhar, a demon, was married to Vrinda, a famous devotee of Lord Vishnu. Due to Vrinda’s devotion and dedication, Jalandhar was able to get the power to control the Devatas. He  started misusing his power and started torturing people. It became very difficult for the Devatas to kill  Jalandhar. As a result, they prayed to Lord Vishnu for help. Lord Vishnu took the form of Jalandhar and misled Vrinda into breaking her devotion, diminishing Jalandhar’s power, and defeating him in the war.

When Vrindra got to know about this, she cursed Lord Vishnu to become a piece of rock.  Lord Vishnu turned into a rock because of the curse. Then the Devatas asked Vrinda to take the curse. Vrinda took back her curse but surrendered herself with her husband.

To uphold the curse of Vrinda,  Lord Vishnu displayed himself in the form of ‘Shaligram’. Vrinda appeared in the form of Tulsi. To maintain the purity of Vrinda, the Devatas married Shaligram to Tulsi.
